and successful plays of modern times. “A classic play

THE WIZARD OF OZ
by L. Frank
Baum, adapted by Frank Gabrielson
Join Dorothy and her friends on the yellow
brick road…to Oz. This musical holiday show will
transport you “beyond the rainbow.” Come join Dorothy,
the Scarecrow, the Tinman, and the Cowardly Lion as they
travel the universe of Dorothy’s imagination. From this
American classic, author Terry McMillan learned about
courage, about ``being afraid but doing whatever it was
you set out to do anyway” Chicago Sun Times. |

THE CLEAN HOUSE
by Sarah Ruhl
Lane is a busy doctor with a Brazilian cleaning lady
named Matilde who doesn’t like to clean and dreams of
being a comedienne. The doctor’s sister is obsessed with
cleanliness and volunteers to clean for her. The
doctor’s husband leaves her for an older woman and . . .
The plot may sound like a bizarre soap opera, but this
modern work is a warm-hearted and whimsical look at
class, comedy and the nature of love. “As Ms. Ruhl’s
compassionate comedy argues, the best things in life — a
sublime joke, a fulfilling purpose, a soul mate, even a
satisfactory death — are infinitely worth waiting for”
The New York Times. |

THE
MYSTERY OF IRMA VEP (a penny dreadful)
by Charles
Ludlum
This is a campy tribute to old style melodramas. Set in
an old Victorian mansion and an Egyptian tomb, this
side-splitting gothic spoof is performed by two actors
playing eight roles. “The script veers crazily from
Bronte to Bronte, borrows a bit of du Maurier’s Rebecca
and recycles Shakespeare. In this horror parody, even a
bouquet of wolfsbane could not keep laughter from the
door” The New York Times. |
